So, play has been suspended for the time being, I decided to start a small discussion on WordPress regarding the players of the tournament so far.
Feel free to add your thoughts in the comments section below.
What a way to announce yourself on the international scene, opening his EURO 2012 campaign with 3 delightful goals for Russia in a mere two games. Yes, they came in matches against Czech Republic and Poland, but one does have to credit the midfielder/attacker for his impressive showings in the tournament so far.
Another player on three goals for the tournament so far. Has showed his excellent positioning along with aerial ability in the opening 2 group games of Group B.
A player really making his mark in the EUROs, and has outshone his counterpart Jelavic, being joint-top scorer for the tournament so far. Showed that he was clinical with his finishing and showed that he could boss defenders during matches, even getting the better of Italy’s defence.
David Silva, Fabregas and Iniesta
To me, the three real stand-outs in a stellar Spanish side. Fabregas has chipped in with two goals, and David Silva provided an absolutely delightful chipped through pass for Fabregas against Italy on Matchday 1. A good showing from the trio thus far.
Talk about silencing the critics. Showed his class and acceleration with a splendid burst of pace that completely caught England’s defence out on Matchday 1, before slotting in an inch perfect pass for Di Natale to latch onto and eventually finish. Did I mention that he scored a phenomenal freekick on Matchday 2 against Croatia?
Talk about becoming an instant hero. Came on following Poland number 1 Szczesny’s sending off and immediately made himself a hero among the Polish faithful with a good save from the spot. Produced a decent showing against Russia as well, helping Poland to a 1-1 draw.
So, who has been your stand-out defender of the tournament so far? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
